Push Back Rack

Pushback Racks are basically selective racking that has been doubled into groups of four pallets. They increase storage density from 25%-65% while maintaining the flexibility to store a multiple SKUs (stock keeping units).

This type of dynamic system stores and retrieves pallets from the same aisle in a last-in, first-out (LIFO) order, reducing pick times. It is designed for operations that require a large number of full pallet pick faces with two or more pallets per SKU.

All of the pallets at each level, except the first one in, are placed on a set of trolleys that are pushed along rolling rails. These rails are built on a slight incline, lower at the front, so that the pallets at the back move forward when the pallet closest to the aisle is removed.

Description

Advantages of Pushback Pallet Racks

  • Provides optimal combination of selectivity and high-storage density (you can store more with push-back pallet racks than with other racking systems)
  • Loading and unloading carried out in a central aisle.
  • Allows efficient use of space with limited sacrifice in product accessibility
  • Debris-free design makes these racks perfect for food applications
  • Low product damage with use of a cart system
  • Any forklift will work to retrieve product
  • Works well with narrow aisle equipment
  • Great for odd-shaped, large, or small, pallets that don’t fit into another racking system

Disadvantages of Pushback Pallet Racks

  • Carts require maintenance
  • Lost vertical space
  • Need a tracking system for inventory location so products don’t get lost
